Hi, I'm Jade, and I like to do things my own way.
For at least 10 years I have cut out my stock photos the same way: by using the polygonal lasso tool. I have gotten pretty good at it, and to be honest, it DOES have its uses. It is great with straight lines, messily "chopping" something out, clean 90 degree angles, etc. (I know, some of you would even argue that point. It doesn't really matter.) The point is, the lasso tools do NOT do curvature very well.

While the activities and workshops I have in mind are geared toward developing or continuing to develop advanced skills, everyone is welcome to participate. 'Where are the photomanip DDs?' and other FAQsEDIT: Closed replies because I don't see the point in arguing further.
Hi gang,
Wanted to address a couple of concerns that have come my way recently and maybe provide some answers so that we all can work together to make a positive change in this community.
There haven't been a lot of photomanip DDs posted lately. That's not because I don't want to post them or am punishing people-- trust me, I wish I could post a good, strong DD every day. I do not do so because most of the suggestions I get do not meet my specifications.
What are my DD specifications?
Before you suggest, you should read my DD guidelines.In case you need a reminder, here is a short, short version:

PE Interview with DD Suggester Minato-KushinaAs part of Daily Deviations PE week we have interviewed the lovely `Minato-Kushina who has been suggesting DDs since November 2010. She has since then had over 500 suggestions accepted and as a result of her regular suggestions, made her name known on the DD page.
What first got you interested in wanting to suggest DDs?
I don't really remember the exact point when I started paying attention to DDs. I guess, I saw these beautiful pictures at the bottom of my page. Gradually, I understood that they were a kind of "award" for outstanding pieces. I was also wondering how some people could suggest DDs! By searching here and there, I found the way.
I eventually decided to send my first suggestion to ^rydi1689, the then Fan Art Gallery Moderator. She is so kind, she accepted it immediately! This encouraged me to suggest more and eventually to love this task. I am generally shy with others. So this gesture, although it may seemed normal to her, it was

Now I have a confession to make... I self suggested this deviation to `DomiSM, so it didn't come as a surprise I received it.
I know from being a volunteer that some people feel that DD's should be suggested by others or that it should be a surprise. Well no, not always. Sometimes you have to fight for your work to gain exposure. Gone are the days where deviantART was a small site... you need to learn how to use the channels on dA to get the exposure your work deserves.
These days, I work in vector and the high pecentage of work I upload to dA is client work. A huge part of being a Freelancer is marketting yourself and putting yourself out there. This is why self suggesting yourself for a Daily Deviation should be

Good afternoon / morning, everyone!

I've got some interviews about using masks in your photomanipulations today!
Basically, masks are a way of non-destructively erasing parts of your work. Non-destructively means that it doesn't "destroy" your base image - everything you don't erase is kept and it's simple to fix it if you make a mistake. Whereas if you just deleted the parts of an image you don't want, that would be lost and it would be complicated to get those parts back in many instances. Read on for more info!
